The Fixer Upper: A Novel (Hardcover)
From Publishers Weekly
Andrews’s latest Southern charmer begins with junior lobbyist Dempsey Jo Killebrew in the crosshairs of a political bribery investigation. Suddenly unemployed and the victim of a sleazy smear campaign by her former boss, Dempsey decides to take up her father’s offer of flipping a recently inherited family home in Guthrie, Ga. As it turns out, the house needs much more than a fresh coat of paint, and Dempsey’s ornery cousin and her dog are squatting there. So it is that the formerly glamorous Dempsey steps into her dead uncle’s overalls and chips her manicured nails as she scrubs and sands her way through fixing up the house, quickly finding a renovation groove, fitting in with the locals and embarking on a romance. Meanwhile, the FBI and a pesky reporter come asking questions about the bribery accusations. This authentic tale of cleaning up life’s messes and self-discovery is bright, engaging and thoughtful, enlivened by Andrews’s quirky characters and lovely backwoods setting. Dempsey Killebrew’s life is in shambles. She is abruptly fired from her high-powered job as a Washington lobbyist when her boss is accused of political shenanigans and uses vulnerable Dempsey as his scapegoat. Out of work, out of money, and out of options, Dempsey goes to Guthrie, Georgia, at her father’s request, to work on a house he inherited. Not only is it a total mess, it’s also inhabited by an elderly distant relative with a shotgun who has only disgust for anyone named Killebrew—and no plans for moving out. With limited funds from her father, Dempsey sets out to fix the house, and maybe herself with a little help from her new friends in town, as she struggles to clear her name and avoid federal prosecution for the allegations made by her former boss, who took advantage of her naïveté. Andrews serves up a tempting and satisfying dish of southern-fried romance, featuring a courageous heroine who is wooed by a worthy hero. –Patty Engelmann

Deep Dish: A Novel (Paperback)
From Publishers Weekly
Andrews (Savannah Breeze; Hissy Fit) delivers a trademark romance set in her native Deep South. Gina Foxton is a 30-year-old chef with a health-conscious approach to classic Southern fare whose public access cooking show gets canceled when the show’s big sponsor pulls out after finding the show’s producer (and Gina’s boyfriend) in bed with his wife. So news that the Cooking Channel is looking to add a new show is a welcome development. The producers are also interested in another local cooking show called Vittles, hosted by Kill It and Grill It Tate Moody. The competition between Gina and Tate ramps up when the network decides to turn their competition into a reality show. The close quarters and competition create the right atmosphere for the two chefs to fall in love, though things never get too racy. Andrews takes a long time to get the romance off the ground, but when it starts moving, it moves fast. Andrews’s readership will eat this one up. (Feb.) Product Description After years of hard work, Gina Foxton, chef extraordinaire and former runner-up Miss Teen Vidalia Onion, is hosting her own show, Fresh Start, on Georgia public television. She’s also dating the producer. But when Fresh Start goes bad—and her boyfriend is caught in flagrante delicto with the boss’s wife—Gina decides it’s time to pursue bigger dreams. Namely a gig on national television. Gina knows she’s destined to be the Cooking Channel’s next superstar. But the execs also have their eyes on Tate Moody, Mr. “Kill It and Grill It” himself, host of the hunting, fishing, and cooking show Vittles. The ultimate man’s man, Tate is a tasty side of beef with a large, swooning female fan base. Gina’s loyal devotees consist of her free-spirited college-dropout sister and her mother . . . who calls every single day. When the smoke clears there can be only one TV chef standing, and Gina and Tate are ready for the cook-off of their lives.

Little Bitty Lies: A Novel (Paperback)
From Booklist
Andrews is the pseudonym of Kathy Trocheck, primarily known for her Callahan Garrity mystery series. If the name switch signals the author’s desire to change writing styles, then she’s certainly achieved her goal. The Trocheck books are mostly formulaic comic whodunits, but this supremely entertaining story sets Andrews up to be a southern Susan Isaacs. Mary Bliss is so busy propping up her best friend, Katharine, who’s coping with her broken marriage by drinking gin and buying expensive toys, that she fails to notice her own marriage is in trouble. Her once dependable husband, Palmer, has cleaned out their accounts and left her with a pile of debt. In desperation, she takes a job as a product-demonstration hostess, but her salary will barely cover the electric bill. She allows Katharine to talk her into a cockeyed scheme to have Palmer declared dead so she can collect the insurance. That’s when she meets sexy fraud investigator Matt Hayslip, and things really start to heat up. A breezy story fairly brimming with good spirits and feisty humor. Hissy Fit: A Novel (Paperback)
From Publishers Weekly
Interior decorator Keeley Rae Murdock has designed her whole life, right down to the antique Oriental rug planned for the foot of her bed. What she never counted on was discovering her fiancé, A.J. Jernigan, cavorting with her maid of honor in the middle of her rehearsal dinner. She pitches a hissy fit that reverberates through her tiny hometown of Madison, Ga., and captures the attention of Will Mahoney, a newcomer who recently purchased an antebellum plantation house. Headstrong, freckled Will pressures Keeley to restore the rundown mansion within six months. His plan: to woo a woman whom he has seen only on television by designing the house of her dreams by Christmas. Keeley knows it’s an insane plan, but the Jernigans are now trying to put her out of business, so she begrudgingly accepts. As the house comes together, Keeley discovers links between the Jernigan legacy of infidelity and her mother’s disappearance many years ago. Darker than the book’s fluffy title suggests, this black comedy is riven with shocking secrets. And Keeley’s vast knowledge of all things antique offers a fascinating peek into the luscious world of designer home furnishing, sure to make readers drool with envy over sideboards and sofas. Andrews is the pseudonym of Kathy Trocheck, primarily known for her Callahan Garrity mystery series. This is the third Andrews title, following Savannah Blues (2002) and Little Bitty Lies [BKL S 1 03], and it’s obvious she’s on a roll. In the midst of a posh rehearsal dinner for her upcoming nuptials, interior decorator Keeley Murdock discovers her fiance, A. J. Jernigan, and her maid of honor in a lusty embrace. One major hissy fit later, the wedding is off, and Keeley is left trying to salvage her dignity. The disgraced Jernigans use their considerable clout to undermine Keeley’s business. Desperate to shore up her finances, she takes a rush job redecorating an antebellum mansion for Will Mahoney, a wealthy entrepreneur who has recently purchased a failing local lingerie factory and whom she indelicately refers to as “bra boy.” Andrews’ descriptions of antique furniture and heart-pine flooring are so lush and appealing that they will seduce even the decorating-challenged. Throw in the idyllic southern setting and the humorous, often-scintillating banter, and you’ve got yourself another winning read. Joanne WilkinsonCopyright © American Library Association.
